Isaiah – Chapter 29

Prayer
13 The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is made up only of rules taught by men

This passage describes people who come to the Lord and worshiping Him hedonistically and legally. How often do we do that? Let’s say praying for example; a pray is what we do to communicate back to God. But if our heart is not there, we do it to boast ourselves or someone said so… it defeats the purpose of a prayer.
A friend came to me once and said he does not like to pray in large settings. “Everyone prays forever, or uses big words…or rambles. I feel more comfortable praying by myself.” To some degree I agree. I too lose the intimacy while praying in groups.  These groups’ settings, my hearts wanders where it shouldn’t be…usually more towards the legalistic side. Do you feel the same way when you pray?
