Job – Chapter 2
Satan’s Round 2
Job has always been one of my favorite books; the suspense, the drama , Job’s integrity, selflessness & blameless, and like many great stories, a happy ending.
Here are some of my takeaway:
6 The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.”
What stands out to me the most is the last five words of this sentence. Satan can do whatever he wants with Job but only with “permission” from God. Yes, Satan just got owned when it comes to absolute authority. This shows that the prince of demon is a finite being with limited capabilities.
9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”
Sure, many would say, “What a foolish wife to have.” but if you look closely, she loves Job. Seeing someone you love deeply to be in such agony & pain can be unbearable. Job’s wife has seem some of the most gruesome torment cast onto her husband and her advice? If you die, your pain will go away…Who knows, maybe its a selfish reason, or maybe she wants her husband to be at peace? Maybe she has a good heart for her husband, but probably not the smartest when it comes to making decisions.
12 And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads toward heaven. 13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great.
We can only imagine the extremities Job has gone through; the pain and suffering so unbearable we may even ask to be euthanize. Just imagine what Job’s three friend has seen before their eyes. They were speechless; words could not be uttered or described from their mouths for seven days and night as they grief and mourn for Job. I would say, these are some great friends Job has; even during his darkest times, they did not abandoned him.
