Nehemiah 8

Joy, Joy, Joy…

After Nehemiah and the Israelites complete the strenuous task of rebuilding the wall, the Jews start to come together as a nation again. Ezra reads the Book of the Law to the Jews and the Jews response by “weeping as they listened to the words of the Law” (Nehemiah 7:9). There’s been so few times when I’ve been that emotional after reading the bible. The Jews must have felt either extreme guilt for their sins or possibly nostalgia as they remember how great they used to have it compared to now.¬†However, Nehemiah and Ezra make it clear that God does not want you to weep and grieve but to be joyous and celebrate.

As for the tent and booths that they built, I have no clue what the meaning behind that is…maybe someone can shed light on it. But, surely enough, just as the wall was rebuilt, God is rebuilding his people.
