Proverbs 23

We will discuss warnings against getting plastered
Wine was well know in Biblical times as something that causes tipsiness along with a multitude of other side effects. Proverbs gives some of the strongest warnings against overindulgence.

Proverbs 20:

1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler;
whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Proverbs 21:

17 Whoever loves pleasure will become poor;
whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.

Proverbs 23:

20 Do not join those who drink too much wine
or gorge themselves on meat,
21 for drunkards and gluttons become poor,
and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

Let’s note, we are not encouraged to drink too much wine… but what about drinking in general? The question I have for readers is this: what are your thoughts on drinking? Should we avoid the bars completely? Or can we have a social drink once in a while?

One Response so far.

    Drink responsibly. If drinking in bars leads to bad influences i.e. fights, lust of the flesh, uncontrolled drinking then it should be avoided.

    Psalm 119 : 101
    I have kept my feet from every evil path
    so that I might obey your word.
