2 Everyone lies to their neighbor;
they flatter with their lips
but harbor deception in their hearts.
3 May the LORD silence all flattering lips
and every boastful tongue—
4 those who say,
“By our tongues we will prevail;
our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”
Again in James 1:26
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless
And in James 3:9
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
It is pretty clear that what and how we speak should be seriously considered and thought out. Because there are severe ramifications if we do not. The tongue can also be used to glorify God,bring praises to Him, encourage a fellow brother or sister in Christ, or reach out to unbelievers. So choose wisely our words, speak only when necessary.
I find sometimes that once I begin to complain about one thing, the next complain follows through. Before I know it, I go on a complaining spree about everything that is wrong at that present time. So now I try to not even complain in the beginning. The tongue really has a mind of its own. Do you have control of yours?
