Psalm 33 is a praise for the Lord. We begin with a call to sing to the Lord:
1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;
And other praises:
2 Praise the LORD with the harp;
But the passage that I would like to focus on is the following:
16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
Earthly power such as the strength or size of an army cannot escape God’s judgement. We are reminded that even if we acquire great physical strength or popularity, it is something bears no influence over God’s eyes. Regardless of how powerful we are, in God’s eye we are all equal, thus “no warrior escapes by his great strength”.
