Psalm 49

16 Do not be overawed when others grow rich,
when the splendor of their houses increases;

It’s so easy to get jealous when we look around and see what other people have.  They have nice cars, nice jobs, eat out all the time going to fancy restaurants….they seem really happy.  And we start comparing the way they live and the way we live.

Do we really want to live their lives though?  We don’t know the sacrifices they made to get the nice things….or we don’t truly know what’s going on in their hearts.

But we do know a couple things….

First, we know…

17 for they will take nothing with them when they die,
their splendor will not descend with them.
18 Though while they live they count themselves blessed—
and people praise you when you prosper—
19 they will join those who have gone before them,
who will never again see the light of life.

And second…we are supposed to hold on to the riches we have in Christ.
It’s easier said than done, but when we a saturated with the Gospel, our desires will be different.

How can we work on this together?
