Psalm 5

Wake up in the morning..

1 Listen to my words, LORD,
   consider my lament.
2 Hear my cry for help,
   my King and my God,
   for to you I pray.

   3 In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice;
   in the morning I lay my requests before you
   and wait expectantly.

What is the first thing we do when we wake up? Turn the music on loud to wake ourselves up? Make coffee? Perhaps we slam the snooze button to afford us the extra sweet 9 minutes of sleep that it provides. Personally I do some of the above and while drinking a hot cup Milo, I would scan the headlines for the day’s news on my laptop, and perhaps browse through my emails. Then I would get ready and head out to work.

The author here however, offers that we talk to God in the morning. That we lay ourselves and our hearts before him. Many of us have enough struggles and problems on our plate. So let’s instead of sleeping in late, sleep early to be able to wake an extra few minutes in the morning. Instead of catching the latest headlines, pray and talk to God. Quieten down our hearts and meditate for the day ahead. I believe it really prepares you for the day ahead.
