Psalms is a collection of poems.
1 LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger
or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint;
heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in deep anguish.
How long, LORD, how long?
We see that the writers of Psalm 6 asked the Lord to not rebuke them, they ask how long the Lord is going to take to save them from their anguish. Despite their love and acceptance for God, it seems they often feel abandoned, misused and betrayed. The find no guarantee in their closeness to God.
Living by faith is not easy. Psalms does not offer advice to make the troubles of life go away. We see the real-life struggles and discouragements in these strong voiced poems, but more powerful is the voice of joy and security in the Lord himself.
