Psalm 67

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us—

How many of us have heard of prosperity gospel? That seems to be a trend among some mega churches who preach that it is OK to ask God for wealth, for status, for more blessings. Is this the verse that is based off? Does this mean that we should?

But wait, there is a second part…

2 so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.

There is a purpose for asking God to help you pass your exam, or to give your family good health, or to make things go smoothly no matter what you do.

Again in a later verse,

7 May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Our purpose is to preach the Gospel, and let the world know of Him. While we should not be afraid to ask for blessings, as God gives to those who are bold,  “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9),

we must not forget what the ultimate purpose of it all is.
