Song of Solomon 1
Song of Solomon is a very explicit love song with, oh yes I love this, erotic lyrics. Mmm…
Song of Solomon talks bluntly about lovers enjoying each other’s bodies along with other intoxicating stuff. This has lead some to interpret Song of Solomon with an allegorical approach, conveying more of a love between God and his people, which was what I first thought. However, another interpretation is to believe this poem was intended to celebrate the love between a newly married couple… exemplifying God’s value in the love between a man an a women.
2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.
3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the maidens love you!
4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.
Though Song of Solomon is mostly about the love on a more human level, it is also insightful to read it as God’s love. Although Song of Solomon never makes this connection explicitly, we are presented with a love so rich full and unashamed that it’s natural to think of God and his love for us.
